Richard Ellum

Richard and his wife, Kathleen, left England for Calgary in 1968. As a woodwork teacher Richard soon realized that he could build his own house ,Canadian style ,resulting in a move to the M. D. In 1976. He was appointed to Foothills Composite when it opened in 1984, volunteering for Director of the 1989 Provincial Industrial Education Conference, later taking early retirement in 1996 to pursue his furniture making.

Running has been his main activity for 55 years being involved in all 37 Sheep River Road Races, a founder member of the Big Rock Runners and running the Boston Marathon in 2008. He found time for two terms on the Recreation Board and Sports Director for the 2004 Alberta Summer Games. Another interest is singing and currently sings Tenor with the Okotoks Men’s Chorus and the Foothills Philharmonic Chorus.
