Community Art Program
The Community Art Program is a partnership between Sheep River Health Trust and the local artists in the Foothills. It's an amazing oppourtunity to showcase the talent and creativity within our community.

The artist chooses the title and the price for the piece. We then hang their creations on display in the halls at the Okotoks Health & Wellness Centre.

Once artwork is sold, funds are paid to the artist with twenty percent of the proceeds donated to the Trust.

Every four months we hold an "Art Change"
where artists are asked to come pick up any unsold art and bring in new pieces for display. That way we keep our halls fresh with new creations.

For more information about displaying your art or purchasing a piece seen at the Okotoks Health & Wellness Centre, contact Sheep River Health Trust at 403-995-5400 or sheepriver.healthtrust@ahs.ca.

If you are not able to physically visit the Okotoks Health & Wellness Centre, follow us on facebook and Instagram where we feature a different artist each week.

Leave your legacy
Memorial
We extend our condolences to you and your family during this time of loss. When you lose a loved one, it may seem that no gesture is adequate to show how much that person means to you.
Making a memorial donation is an opportunity to pay tribute to someone who touched your life in a significant way.

Thoughtful donors’ names and addresses will be provided to the family contact but amounts will not be revealed.

Setting up memorial contributions with the Sheep River Health Trust is quick and easy

Please notify us of the following by phone, email or mail:
– Your Loved one’s full name.
– Full name and address of the family contact for us to send notifications to as we begin to receive donations in your loved one’s name.
– The specific fund to which you wish the gift to be applied.
Securities
People who own stocks, bonds, or mutual funds are happy when their investments increase. Unfortunately, when you convert your investment to cash, the capital gain is taxable. By directly donating your publicly listed securities to the Sheep River Health Trust, you will pay no capital gains tax on their increase in value.

The Trust will provide you with a charitable tax receipt for the full market value on the day
they are received in our account. This tax receipt:
– will help you immediately reduce the amount of tax you pay on your income
– may be carried forward if your donation exceeds your annual limit and used in any of the next five years
– may help reduce the taxes on your estate in the year of your death – and allow more of your estate to go to your beneficiaries

If you would like more information, please contact us.
Future
Bequest: Leaving a bequest to the Sheep River Health Trust in your will is a way to leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

Life Insurance: You can name the Trust as the owner or beneficiary of your existing life insurance, or you can create a new life insurance policy and donate it to the Trust.

Endowed Gifts: With endowed funds, the donation is invested and the earned income is directed annually to support highest priority programs or areas of special interest to the donor.

If you would like more information on how you can make a difference or if you have already made arrangements for a planned gift, please phone 403-995-5400. If you would prefer that your gift remains anonymous, we will respect your wishes.
Music Enrichment
Music therapy can be especially effective in helping seniors enhance their memory and cognitive skills. Research shows that music not only elicits positive reactions when it reminds individuals of their past, but it can also evoke special memories and stimulate responses in seniors with dementia. We currently offer a weekly program at Rising Sun Long Term Care and a monthly program at each of the five Adult Day Support Program locations.
School Meal Program
In 2004, our local schools reached out to us after recognizing the need for a school meal program to address concerns about children attending school hungry. We launched the School Meal Program with just four schools, and it has now expanded to include 12 schools, spanning from elementary to high school. Since the program's inception, the Sheep River Health Trust has provided over 600,000 nutritious meals and snacks to students in participating schools.
Spiritual Care
Location: Oilfields General Hospital
Provision of spiritual health care by clinically trained Spiritual Health Practitioners to patients and families across diverse spiritual, religious, cultural, and philosophical values, beliefs, and practices.

Spirituality is a dimension of health. A Spiritual Health Practitioner (SHP) is a member of the health care team that can help you understand your unique health journey in light of your personal beliefs, values, relationships and experiences. Spiritual healthcare is confidential, inclusive, compassionate, and respectful and SHPs are skilled in providing philosophical, spiritual, and religious patient care across beliefs, cultural perspectives, and practices. They address spiritual distress (experiences of loss of meaning and connection in relation to yourself, to others and to what you understand as greater) and promote spiritual well-being (connection in relation to yourself, to others and to what you understand as greater).
A SHP will listen compassionately and work with you to determine the support you want and need. Services may include the following:
-
counselling (supportive, problem focused or grief counselling), to help you:
-
find strength to accept what is happening.
-
find meaning and connection in the midst of illness, injury and trauma.
-
cope better with pain and discomfort
-
understand feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, and loneliness
-
understand what’s important to you and make decisions about your health.
-
support when facing ethical dilemma, moral distress, and the need to make difficult decisions.
-
being an advocate to support patients / families as they navigate the health care system in light of their spiritual, religious, philosophical and cultural beliefs, values, and practices
-
connecting with religious and / or cultural supports and services
-
providing palliative and end of life spiritual care
